Squadron Leader Shaun Pascoe commanded emergency medical evacuations around the globe during his sixteen years in the RAF. He served on operational tours in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq and has completed several tours in Afghanistan as Officer Commanding of the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT).
MERT is a medical team that flies forward using the Chinook aircraft to retrieve those significantly injured, often in austere conditions. Shaun and his team helped save hundreds of lives while formulating new and validated clinical practices which are incorporated into the National Health Service today.
On leaving the RAF, Shaun set up a charity in 2012 to help military veterans suffering with physical injuries or mental trauma by providing sailing courses and family sailing trips in a supportive environment. Turn to Starboard has helped hundreds of military personnel re-integrate into civilian life and open doors to new careers in the marine industry. The charity is backed by all five major military organisations, including Help for Heroes, the Royal Air Forces Association, ABF The Soldiers charity, Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and more recently the Royal British Legion.
Shaun’s natural storytelling ability bring his experiences alive. From behind-the-scenes stories to crisis management, Shaun breathes the principles of teamwork and leadership that are sure to both educate and entertain your audience. However, Shaun is far more than a proven leader and entertaining speaker. He is an accomplished yachtsman and gained his Cruising Instructor qualification in 2012 and recently led a team of veterans – many with little or no sailing experience – on a 92-foot long tall ship around the British isles. The 2000-mile Round Britain Challenge aimed to help participants gain new skills while raising awareness of the challenges some veterans face after leaving the military. He has also completed five marathons in the last decade.
As a keynote speaker, Shaun will share his innovative leadership and management style that builds cohesive teams with purpose. He has a passion for empowering people to reach their full potential and can help make a difference in your organisation.
In his position as CEO and founder of Turn to Starboard, Shaun has been instrumental in collaborating major organisations such as The Prince’s Trust and The Royal Endeavour Fund. In just three years, he has overseen the charity’s annual turnover growth from zero to more than £300k with £500k of assets. This substantial success has contributed to the operation of a fleet of vessels which help hundreds of veterans affected by operations to sail each year.
Shaun Pascoe has featured on the Channel 4 series ‘Fighting on the Frontline’ and appeared on SKY News.
